The DNC is bought and paid for by oligarchs. Almost all of the richest US billionaires lean Democrat. Musk is an anomaly, and look how he’s been targeted. I’m not saying it’s entirely unmerited.

So of course the oligarchs want the working class disarmed. And they don’t want populist candidates who want to improve people’s lives and cut into profits which is why the Democrats haven’t had a real primary in awhile.

The oligarchs also fund republicans hoping to control them the same way, but Trump got elected anyway. You might actually hate him 20% less if the bought corporate media hadn’t been weaponized against him. A lot of his positions were Democrat positions twenty years ago. Hillary had some crazy “deport the illegals” quotes back in the day.

A lot of us are here because we burned our Reddit accounts and walked away.

You can do whatever you want to do. So what I’m hearing is you no longer want to.

I’m in Ohio and my German is meh but I can understand 65%ish of what I see. It helps I lived in Duesseldorf for a year, but that was over 35 years ago so it doesn’t help enough.

Measuring wealth by income doesn’t always translate well. When everything you need to live costs five times as much, someone might live very well on 35k in one part of the world and not even be able to afford food, housing and transportation in another on $45k.

This isn’t a place for the broad public though. I live in a place that is 75% conservatives and they are not welcome here. It doesn’t work both ways. Either you stay what you are and grow very slowly, or you allow different thoughts. It won’t happen, but Lemmy would quickly outgrow it’s current capacity if it did.

Why is this a surprise?

Many other countries use them too, although the US does use a lot. It does concern me that China might be wanting to use this to accelerate war, seize Taiwan etc before there are alternate sources available.

The minerals aren’t actually rare, they’re just in low concentrations and difficult to extract. It’s just a matter of time before thet set up mining and precessing somewhere else. It won’t be in the US though. It’ll be somewhere with super cheap labor and no regulations or environmental protections. Which is why it was in China in the first place.

Additionally, Lemmy would be a hostile place if you happened to be a conservative-leaning Linux user. I know quite a few, but they aren’t on Reddit either.

Do you have a source for that? The Wikipedia page about it doesn’t mention it and mentions other sources, which I guess could be tied to the heritage foundation but even clicking through links I couldn’t find any connection.

I’m not saying there isn’t plenty to criticize about the concept and where they place particular individuals. That’s just the first time I’ve heard this claim, and I’m curious about it.

On the political compass subreddit they called them watermelons - green on the outside (libertarian left), red on the inside (authoritarian left). I realize they’re not really left at all, but the authoritarianism is baked in.

You could also simplify by saying that assuming neither of them are dead, at some point while he is 44 she will be 42. Whether or not she is actually his sister seems to be irrelevant, she was stated to be his sister, so regardless of biological data, it is being presented as a fact assumption.

Much of that is on us, but sometimes it’s just the planet doing its thing. I’m in southern Ohio and in recent history we’ve had a bunch of smoke from fires in Canada. A few days ago my car got covered in dirt that apparently came in a weather system from Texas. Neither event was anywhere close to me, but I have breathing problems already, so I always know when the air is worse than usual. I’ve been through volcanic eruptions and even just regular pollen seasons get me all messed up. I don’t currently live in a dense city area, but I have. And city pollution affects me less than most of these other events. Maybe I’ve just adapted to it.

Me too. It’s been over a year since I did it so I don’t recall bthe name of the extension but it had two steps - first, overwriting everything with a gibberish comment, then delete. From what I understand even that isn’t very complete but it makes it more difficult for Reddit or other parties to simply restore your stuff.
