  • A problem with PikaOS is that the log files seem bad or I couldn’t find the right one. Lots of seemingly amateur errors in log (no permission for system to write to system) that don’t seem to lead to imminent crash. Log files don’t pick up having to hit power switch maybe.

My main question was the easy “did a distro switch solve sleep issues for anyone”? Maybe switch to Mint would at least have more google hits on solving issues? Someone downvoted the “switch to x11 graphics driver before sleep” try, and I’m losing patience on tracking it down as you suggest.

  • The reasoning is actually that a food desert means greater revenues from a larger market circle for the desert wanderers to travel so they can eat. Company gets most of the profit without offering convenient service from the captives.

There is zero reason to run grocery stores at a loss. Competition that doesn’t extort as strongly as other cartel members does screw over the cartel.

  • While globe has warmed significantly since 2010, the Arctic has not significantly. Though starting in 2010, 3-5C warmer than 1995 with most of the warming from late August to April. Simply, as the Arctic loses ice, warmer oceans boost air temperatures that feed into warmer oceans, and slower refreezing in winter, with less maximum ice extent.

Arctic ice volume will decrease even if peak summer temperatures in Arctic don’t change from post 2010 levels, which is about 1C higher than 1995 levels. About the same as global summer temperatures differentials in last 2 years. Even as 2023 and 2024 global temperatures made a large step up, Arctic temperatures are still clustered in post 2010 era.

Antactic sea ice has finally decreased starting in 2022. Similar feedbacks can occur, and much of the coast gets exposed in peak summer now.

Sea rise is about the land in polar areas. For Arctic, Baffin sea, Canadian Islands, and Hudson Bay temperatures and clearing are most impactful to Greenland. Antarctic, any clear ocean will impact it, but specific glacier shelves are more vulnerable to clear ocean impacts.

  • The SpaceX/Anduril plan is $2.5T. This initial $25B is just to pay for weapon salesmen to sell the US/public on $2.5T. Like most modern US military spending, the goal is to spend rather than produce value.

With war on Canada, and rest of world, commercial truck and ship bombs are a good path to annonymous destruction of US, where political blame is independent of facts like 9/11. Submarines can attack with short range missiles. If you/enemy believes that golden dome is 99.9% effective, and you/enemy would like to collapse the US economically with a single nuke, as punishment for its hubris, then sending 1000 ICBMs will work. This means producing much more missiles and nuclear payloads, and the dome effectiveness will be overstated and undertested. Much more missiles are likely to get through.
