Hi guys! I’m considering purchasing a Xiaomi air purifier 4 (possibly). I wanted to make sure I can use from the Home Assitant app, while the router’s firewall blocks its online connectivity outside the home network. Do the xiaomi devices connected in HA need online connectivity in order to continue to work?

Also…many of their wristbands series for example need at least to connect once in order to get an auth token that you can then use on gadgetbridge. Do you need any kind of shenanigans to get the purifiers to work on HA?

I know it’s not a direct answer to your question, but I just wanted to draw attention to the IKEA Starkvind air purifier, fully compatible with ZigBee, totally offline

      IKEA Starkvind

Thanks! I did consider it, as I have a preference for Zigbee, since it’s all offline first. But due to the tricky layout of my apartment, the Xiaomi made more sense. I’m not discarding it for the future though (I didn’t know it had zigbee).

    Would it be this integration?

I don’t have one but it’s listed as Local polling, which my understanding is there should be no internet required (if you click where it says “Local polling” on the left, they explain a bit more about what that generally means).

3H works completely off-line and continues to work survives reboots etc.

(Much better than some tuya which goes zombie mode unless you completely block dns but i digress)

    • can’t remember if I had to go online to get tokens. A google would be faster than my memory. There are a few cards some with nice visuals but not alll the features work on them but it works enough I don’t worry about it.

    • I use an automation off the air quality sensor reading to alert the local fire station that my wife is cooking.
